Collection of rice straw

Rice straw can be collected from both dry and wet fields using appropriate balers. For dry weather harvesting, straw can be left to dry in the field before collection. However, the straw should not be left in the field for more than 5 days after harvest to avoid quality loss, especially nitrogen loss. For wet weather harvesting, straw should be collected immediately to avoid quality losing quality due to decomposition and increasing greenhouse gas emissions.
