POST-HARVEST MANAGEMENT

After harvesting:

  • Once the harvested maize cobs are dry, the grain can be shelled directly after removing the husk.

  • The grain should be dried on a paved cement surface or on a or tarpaulin sheet until the grain moisture declines to 12-14%
  • It is also possible to dry the cob first and do the grain shelling after drying.
  • The grains must be placed in appropriate bags to be protected from rodents and pests damage during storage.
