Farm location and facilities

Commercialized maize production farmers should consider the following when cultivating maize:

Select flat land with good soil texture.

Sandy loam is a very suitable soil type although corn can also grow in other soil types.

Irrigation should be available in the location

There should be easy road access to the area of maize production.

Corn seeds must come from known sources such as research centers, private shops, or from your own production area.

Farm facilities and equipment are clean and well maintained.

Farm supplies in stores are organized and labeled properly.
